Roberto Espinoza, 46, passed away at his home in San Antonio on Sunday, May 29, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Cynthia Lopez and loving father to Mara and Diego. He enjoyed playing football for Edinburg High School and attended UT Austin, where he met his wife and received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He worked in the pharmaceutical and food industries in several positions particularly in Quality Assurance. But he was best known for being a self-taught chef who could make any type of food taste even better than your favorite restaurant. He generously volunteered in his community and touched many lives through his cooking and baking. His friends even renamed the products of his cookouts “Bob-e-cue.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo and Celia (Lopez) Espinoza and his (premature) children, Mireille and River. He is survived by his sister, Yolanda Cantu (Henry) of Edinburg and his brothers, Ricardo Espinoza (Lily Banda) of San Antonio and Raul Espinoza of Edinburg. He was very proud of his nieces and nephews as well as his Goddaughters.
He will be greatly missed not only by his wonderful friends and the Lopez and Espinoza families, but by his best friend for most of his life, Eddie Carrillo, who was more than a brother to him.
