Roberto C. De La Fuente

May 13, 1934 — January 15, 2015

SAN BENITO, TX. – Roberto C. De La Fuente, Sr., age 80, entered into eternal life on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Valley Baptist Medical Center, surrounded by his family.

Roberto is a lifelong resident of San Benito having been born on May 13, 1934 in San Benito, Texas to his parents, the late Margarito and Felipa De La Fuente.

Roberto is preceded in death by his parents, Margarito and Felipa De La Fuente; brothers Ovidio De La Fuente, Margarito De La Fuente, Esteban De La Fuente and wife Vicky, sister-in-law to Roberto, Jose “Joe” De La Fuente, and Oscar De La Fuente, Sr.; and sisters Maria De La Fuente, Ernestina Motley, Aurora Perez, Juanita Ramirez, Alicia Garcia, and Concepcion Noyola.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 51 years, Guadalupe O. De La Fuente; children Melva (David) Tamez, Robert, Jr. (Vicky), Javier, and Margarito (April) De La Fuente;  his grandchildren, which were the love of his life, Mark Anthony De La Fuente, Sr., Brittany De La Fuente, Crystal De La Fuente, Nicholas De La Fuente, Alejandra De La Fuente, Ashley De La Fuente, Jonathan David Tamez, Matthew Edward Tamez, and Margarito Abran De La Fuente; great-grandchildren Mark Anthony De La Fuente, Jr., Harmoni De La Fuente, Trinity De La Fuente, and Josiah Lopez; sisters, Eusebia (Pedro) Mendez and Matilde Lopez. He also leaves behind many, many nieces and nephews as well as many good friends whom he loved very much.

Our dad Roberto was a very proud veteran of the United States Navy.  He was also a self-employed businessman of 45 years in the City of San Benito.  He served his customers with the utmost respect and professionalism.

Pop, we are going to miss you tremendously.  We love you very very much.  Thank you for being a great father and the lessons you taught us.  You also brought us happiness, joy, and laughter when you said your funny jokes.  We promise to take care of your dogs, Chato and Chacho.  May you rest in peace now Pop.

Visitation will be held between the hours of 2:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. today, Sunday, January 18, 2015, with a recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for seven o’clock Sunday evening within the San Benito Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass of Resurrection will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in San Benito, TX.  Burial services with full Military Honors will then follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Crystal De La Fuente, Jonathan Tamez, Matthew Tamez, Rene Escobedo, Carlos De La Fuente, and Gilbert De La Fuente, Jr.  Honorary pallbearers will be Robert De La Fuente, Jr., Javier De La Fuente, Margarito De La Fuente, David C. Tamez, Ovidio De La Fuente, and Oscar De La Fuente.

Special thanks to Dr. Roa, Dr. Nunnery, and Dr. Minto for their dedicated medical attention to our father. Special thanks to APC Home Health and Neighborhood Home Health.
