Roberto L. (Bubba) Aguirre

October 19, 1942 — July 22, 2017

Robert L. (Bubba) Aguirre of San Benito passed away on July 22, 2017 at the age of 74.

Bubba, as everybody knew him, was born on October 19, 1942, in San Benito to Tomas and Evangelina Aguirre.  He was a graduate of San Benito High School, and attended Texas State Technical Institute.  Bubba served in the US Air Force from 1964-1968.  During his time in the service, Bubba met Chris Bravo, and they married in 1966.  They just recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.

Bubba was a lifetime resident of San Benito.  He served for many years in the Cameron County Health Inspection Department.  He was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and was a lifetime member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church.

Bubba was a true Renaissance man, with a number of different talents and interests.  He loved painting, gardening and hunting.  He loved boxing, wrestling and the Dallas Cowboys.  He was involved in politics all of his life.  Everybody knew Bubba’s car by the sight of the American flags flying and the political signs.

But Bubba’s greatest passion was his extended family.  He was everybody’s favorite uncle.  If you didn’t know he had arrived by the sight of his car, you knew he had arrived when he came inside asking everybody “What’s Happening!?”  He dearly loved all of his nephews and nieces.  He was equally loved in the community, as evidenced by the string of visitors at the hospital who came to check on him.

Bubba was preceded in death by his parents Tomas & Eva Aguirre, brothers Tomas Aguirre Jr. and Gene Aguirre, sisters Viola A. Dye, Olga A. Villarreal, Maria Alicia A. Cavazos, Florestela Aguirre and Piedad A. Rodriguez.  He is survived by his wife Criselda B. Aguirre, who fulfilled their wedding vows by remaining by his side until they were parted by death.  He is also survived by his brother Jose. (Rita) Aguirre, sisters Corina (Rene) Pequeno, and Eva (Pete+) Padilla, sister-in-law Meta (Tomas Jr.+) Aguirre, brother-in-law Andres (Maria Alicia+) Cavazos, and many, many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

He will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.  Funeral services are under the care of San Benito Funeral Home.  A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 24.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, with burial to follow at Mont Meta Cemetery.  Honored to be pallbearers are Isreal Villareal, Rene Pequeno Jr., David Montemayor, Richie Flores, Michael Menchaca, Andy Romero, Alex Romero and Phillip Hinojosa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the San Benito Boys & Girls Club, or the San Benito Food Pantry.
