January 18, 1948 — December 10, 2014

Harlingen:
Robert G. (Bob) Swinnea, 66, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Bob was born on January 18, 1948 in McAllen, Texas to Weldon and Virginia Voigt Swinnea.  He was a 1966 graduate of Weslaco High School and received his BBA in Accounting from Pan American University while working for Texas Plastics, Elsa, TX.  He was then employed by Varmicon, Harlingen, TX.  For the past 23 years he was a self-employed insurance agent, working primarily through Colonial Life and Accident.  He was a former Lion and Rotarian, and was honored to be named a Paul Harris Fellow.  He was ordained a deacon at First Baptist Church in Weslaco and was currently a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Harlingen.
He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Donna Michalk Swinnea of Harlingen; children, Wendy (John) Miller of The Woodlands, TX; Scott (Brenda) Swinnea of Harlingen; Gina (George III) Nations of Tomball, TX; brothers, Jim (Antoinette) Swinnea of Galveston, TX; Larry (Teloa) Swinnea of Shafter, TX; Bill (Sharon) Swinnea of Weslaco, TX; sister, April (Lin) Cubbison of N. Canyon Lake, TX; grandchildren, Nicholas Brons, Tate Brons, Cole Swinnea, Madi Swinnea, Lauren Swinnea and George (Buddy) Nations IV.  He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Jeri Michalk of Harlingen; brothers-in-law, Tom Michalk of Houston, TX and Nathan Michalk of College Station, TX; sister-in-law Carla (Steve) Barker of Conroe, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Although Bob dealt with illness and pain for the last 10 years, his personal faith and love for the Lord never wavered.  He enjoyed sharing his love for God through music, and for 13 years was the worship leader and administrator at Arroyo Baptist Chapel, Arroyo City, TX.  He had a love for sports, coaching his granddaughter’s basketball team, announcing for the MMA football games, and being one of the Harlingen Cardinals biggest fans.  He loved hunting, fishing and boating with family and friends.  Bob and Donna enjoyed traveling together.  He will always be remembered for his infectious smile and every-ready encouraging word.  He loved to laugh and to make others laugh with him, and could turn any occasion into a song.  Bob was a man of honor and integrity, and as his children said, “He was the same man all week as he was on Sunday”.  He loved Donna and his family with all his heart.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Friday, December 12, 2014 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
