Harlingen:
Robert “Bob” Gene Stump, 84, passed away on March 29, 2011 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. He was a former resident of Ohio and a winter visitor to the Harlingen area. He became a permanent resident of Harlingen several years ago.
Bob was born August 23, 1926 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Edgar and Gladys Stump. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in Portsmouth, Ohio and the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Bob served with the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific and European Theater of Operations from 1944 to 1947. After his military service he worked for General Electric Aviation in Cincinnati, Ohio as an Engineer for over 37 years and then with Western Electric in Columbus, Ohio for 4 years also as an Engineer.
Bob had many interest especially model trains and railroads. He also enjoyed painting, wood carving, music, photography and traveling. He was a Mason and member of the Lions Club, Cincinnati Railroad Club, Cindersniffers Railroad Historical Society, N.R.A., and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Stump of Harlingen; daughter, Mary Gayle Stump McEntyre and husband, Jerry of Mesa, Arizona, and son, Mark Robert Stump and wife, Margaret of Goodrich, Michigan; 6 granddaughters, Jessica Stump Noblit and husband Chad of Kennesaw, GA, Kelsey Stump of Goodrich , MI, Carly Schlueter Schneider and husband Jon of Mason, OH, Carmen Schlueter Arzsman and husband Harold of Cincinnati, OH, Melissa Schluelter Moore and husband Jason of Grand Blanc, MI, and Amber McEntyre Ehrlick and husband Phil of Burnsville, MN; 7 great grandchildren; 1 brother-in-law; 3 cousins and 1 aunt.
A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in La Feria, 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 16, 2011 with the Rev. Harold Dailey officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Untied Methodist Church – Land Purchase Fund, 318 S. East St., La Feria, Texas 78559.
