Robert L. Shuckman

December 21, 1938 — September 27, 2015

LOS FRESNOS:
Bob Shuckman passed away peacefully Sunday September 27th at Valley Baptist Hospital after a long illness.  He was surrounded by family.  He was 76.
Robert (Bob) Lewis Shuckman was born on December 21, 1938 in Brownsville, Texas to Kenneth and Sula Hodges Shuckman.  He grew up in and was a life long resident of Los Fresnos.  He attended Texas A & I University in Kingsville.  There, he met and married Merry Lynn Nonmacher of San Antonio and settled in Los Fresnos after graduation.
Bob followed in his father's footsteps, farming cotton, grain and later sugar cane in the Rio Grande Valley and traveling across the state to harvest cotton.  Bob was very active in the Los Fresnos community.  He was instrumental in bringing Little League football and baseball to the town.  He served on the city council, the water district #10 board, grain cooperative and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Los Fresnos.  After retiring from farming he continued to tend to a small citrus orchard.
Bob loved his family, the outdoors and sports.  He was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing in the bay with Merry Lynn and taught his kids to play golf.  He planted fields of sunflowers and hosted an annual dove hunt on Shuckman Farms.  He loved to watch Dallas Cowboys football and in later years lots of golf!
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth Shuckman, Sula Hodges Shuckman and younger brother Tommy Shuckman.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Merry Lynn Shuckman, daughters Leslie Clay (Tom, Courtney, Chase, Christa) Joanna Shuckman and son Jeffrey Shuckman (Allison) and his beloved dogs Molly and Daisy.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 25th from 3:00 - 5:00pm at The Inn at Chacalacha Bend, Los Fresnos, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
The family would like to express deep gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers during this difficult time.   The family would also like to extend their gratitude to his caretakers, Moises and Berta Padron and family.
