Rio Hondo:
Robert (Bob) Hatch, 77, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 at La Hacienda Healthcare in Harlingen. He was born in the old Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen on December 4, 1936 to Wally and Clara Gerring Hatch.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen Schnabl Hatch; daughter, Barbara Moore (Billy) of Pearland, TX; son, Robert Hatch (Kerry) of Weatherford, TX; grandchildren, Seth Moore, Holly Hatch, Emily Hatch and Kurt Hatch. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Scott.
Bob was employed by Valley Grain and Elevator at the Port of Harlingen for 42 years. Prior to that he worked in cotton gins in Rio Hondo and McFarland, CA. Bob was a member of the Rio Hondo School Board, Beef Syndicate, Rio Hondo Quarterback Club, Ex-Students, Knights of Columbus and the San Benito Elks Lodge. If there was something that needed getting done he was the first to jump in and get it done.
Bob would rather be outside working the land and watching his crops grow. He also planted and tended his gardens for sharing the harvest with friends and family.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2014, 11:00 AM, at the Rio Hondo Baptist Church in Rio Hondo, TX with Pastor Gene Horton officiating.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and caregivers at Valley Baptist Medical Center, Harlingen Medical Center, Golden Palms Healthcare and La hacienda Healthcare for all there care and concern.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
