Robert A. Anderson

March 24, 1937 — April 25, 2011

Rio Hondo, TX:
Robert “Andy” A. Anderson, 74, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2011 surrounded by his family loving and praying with him till the end.
Andy was born March 24, 1937 to Axel and Eva Anderson in Manchester, CT.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and retired after 21 years of service with the rank of C MSgt. While serving his country Andy received many medal and ribbons which included the Bronze Star for Bravery and Acts of Merit, Air Force Commendation Medal and Presidential Unit Citation.  He loved his country and was proud of his service to his country; this is demonstrated by his request to be buried in his military uniform.
Upon retiring from the military Andy went to work for Western Marketing, Inc.  and retired after 20 years of service, retiring in Arroyo City.
Retirement once again was short lived and then he went to work for Conoco-Phillips for 6 years. He then started A & G Inspections, Inc. with his Conoco-Phillips friend, Bill Gailbreath.
He eased into his final retirement. Andy cherished his Sundays of Church, a family meal and a competitive game of Dominoes.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Harlingen. His infectious smile and laugh drew many friends. There will never be a shortage of humorous life stories regarding Andy.
His love for his wife was ever-lasting. They had renewed their vows in July 2007. Andy loved his only child, Eva with all his heart and his son-in-law Turk was his best friend.  He was an amazing husband, father, father-in-law, friend and family member. He defined his life by his love of God, his family, and his country.
Andy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley and his daughter, Eva Johnson (Turk). He is also survived by his faithful dog, Jake.
Graveside services will be held Friday, April 29, 2011, 2 p.m., at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army, 201 E. Monroe Ave, Harlingen, Texas 78550 or the First United Methodist Church of Harlingen, 321 E. Harrison, Harlingen, Texas 78550.
