Riles C. Steussy

December 5, 1959 — October 10, 2024

Captain Riles Cecil Steussy of Raymondville, Texas and longtime resident of Port Mansfield, Texas, at the age of 64 was ushered into heaven on Thursday, October 10, 2024, after his battle with cancer. Riles was born in Houston, Texas on December 5, 1959, to Howard and Ima Steussy. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was married 35 years to the love of his life, Teresa Madaffari Steussy. They have four children, Jayson (Jaime) Hough, Josie (Josh) McCalister, Kal Steussy, Kreigh (Victoria) Steussy. Grandchildren, Robyn & Rhylie Hough, Harmony McKelvy and Chance McCalister. Brothers Howard “HE” and Marsh Steussy, sister Cindy Neeley, many nephews and nieces.

Riles was a long time Fishing Guide and Commercial Fisherman of Port Mansfield, Texas. He loved being out on the water. He immensely enjoyed nature and all of God’s creations. Hunting and fishing were not just his pastime and enjoyment; it is also how he provided for his family. Filling the freezer with fish, venison, and nilgai any chance he got. It was with pride and great joy that he passed down these skills to his children and grandchildren.

Riles was a jack of all trades, and thankfully, a master of some. Riles was skilled in carpentry and construction. He worked on building many homes in Port Mansfield in his younger years. He also, crafted several commercial fishing skiffs for himself and others.

Riles served as a Trustee of First Baptist Church of Combes, Texas and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a man of God. His testimony of salvation is, and always will be a true testament to the love and grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He enjoyed ministering to and praying for others.

His loving presence with his family, friends, and community will be greatly missed.
