Richard G. Atkinson

Richard G. “Dick” Atkinson of Rio Hondo, Texas, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 9, 2018.  He was born in San Benito on February 12, 1955 to Alberto and Tomasita Garica Atkinson.

Richard was a proud graduate of Los Fresnos High School and a life-long farmer and rancher. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved the rodeo.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Alberto and Tomasita Atkinson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Zuniga Atkinson; sons, Richard "RJ" (Jessica Lynne Harlien) Atkinson, Jr. and Calvin (Krystal Magana) Atkinson; sister, Flora (Juan) Gonzales; brothers, Jack (Delia) Atkinson, Albert (Raquel) Atkinson, Laco Atkinson, and Mac (Becky) Atkinson.

Richard’s family will be receiving friends and relatives on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Rio Hondo.  Richard will be laid to rest at La Leona Cemetery following the funeral mass.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are RJ Atkinson, Calvin Atkinson, Michael Atkinson, Java Atkinson, David Atkinson, and Oti Zamora.
