Richard Turner, a loving husband, father, grandfather, a United States Navy veteran and a retired Sergeant of the Harlingen Police Department was called upon to the streets of Heaven with his wife, Lupita by his side on March 20, 2022. He was 79 years young.
Richard was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 25, 1942. He served the City of Harlingen as a police officer for over 36 years. His career was not simply defined by catching criminals; he defined it by helping those in their darkest of times. Richard’s proudest period during his career was being an advocate and a voice for abused children. He fought tirelessly to provide justice to the little voices who needed him most. For those he worked alongside with those many years ago believe in your hearts he was so proud of you all. For those still wearing blue today, he is still by your side.
Beyond work, he was a train enthusiast and an avid reader. He was an occasional fisherman and a little league baseball coach. He had two green thumbs and could make anything grow. He loved animals and animals loved him. He worked harder than anyone else and often held several jobs at one time.
Best of all, he was a husband and a dad to four boys, Richard, Shawn, Brian, and Aaron.
The years preceding his passing were filled with love for all his grandchildren.
For those of us lucky enough to call him a friend, or Dad, or Grandpa, his passing will leave a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. Dad, you will be missed beyond measure. We love you, Honey.
Richard’s family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock on Thursday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 25, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church in San Benito.
