Richard J. Steeno, 89, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX
Richard was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 18, 1920  to Frank and Sylvia Steeno.  He was a graduate of the Ohio State University with a degree in Horticulture. He then joined the U.S. Army where he served for many years with the 45th Rainbow Division Artillary Group.
He resided in Chicago, IL for several years and in 1960 moved to Harlingen, where he was the General Manager of the Swift Company’s Fertilizer Division.
He was a former city commissioner in Harlingen in the 1960’s and a proud promoter of the city,  He also was a former member of the Harlingen Lions Club, Harlingen Rotary Club, Harlingen Elks Lodge Confederate Air Force, Harlingen Beef Club and a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Richard later in life developed a passion for stamp collecting and gardening.  He especially was known for his art of growing Oak trees which were donated and given to special friends and businesses in the area.
Survivors include his wife, Louise of Harlingen; sons, Gary Steeno (Kaye) of New Braunfels, TX and Dennis Steeno (Rita) of Austin, TX; sister, Evelyn Kundzala of Solon, OH; grandchildren, Tim Steeno of Denton, TX, Todd Steeno of New Braunfels, TX and Kevin Steeno of New Braunfels, TX; niece, Beverly Magyar of Solon, OH.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Steeno who was a volunteer for many years at the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen.
Visitation hours will be from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 2, 2010
Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 3, 2010.  Burial will be in Austin, TX at the Cook-Walden Capital Park on Friday, February 5, 2010.
