Richard Garland (Nick) Nichols, 74, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2014 in Harlingen, Texas.
Nick was born February 13, 1940 in Harlingen, the son of Richard A. Nichols and Lucy Richards Nichols.  Nick was a graduate of Pan American University, earned his Master’s degree in Accounting from Texas A & M at College Station in 1967 and obtained his CPA license the same year. He was associated with the CPA firm of Mothershead, Hamilton, Day and Mayo.  He continued his career as accounting professor at Pan American University and eventually retired as accounting professor from TSTC in Harlingen.
In 1960 he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Butler, and they celebrated their 54th anniversary in July.
He had a life-long love of books, starting to read under the covers with a flashlight at age six.
He was predeceased by his parents and a great-granddaughter, Lillian Stovall.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Deborah (Kenneth) Stovall; son, Brian (Shirley) Nichols; grandchildren, Rebecca (Ezekiel) Espinosa, Shane (Carol) Stovall, Luke (Elisa) Stovall, Rosalie (Jared) Brummett, Clay Stovall, Alex Nichols, Allen Stovall, Anabel Nichols (the mother of Rosalie and Alex).  He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Katrina Stovall, Izumi Espinosa, Lilah Stovall and Nikolai Stovall.  He is also survived by half-siblings, Fred Nichols, Mary Sue Fleming, Kenneth Nichols and Annabelle Lindholm.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 2 P.M. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Kenneth Stovall, Shane Stovall, Clay Stovall, Allen Stovall, Alex Nichols, and Jared Brummett.
