Richard McVeigh

Richard (Dick) Eugene McVeigh, 78, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Retama Manor Nursing Home in Harlingen. He was born on September 1, 1935 in Souix City, Iowa to Raymond and Faye McVeigh.
Dick was very well scholared earning a B.A., M.A. and a Ph. D. all in education.  Dick worked as a Secondary School Administrator in California, Guam and throughout South East Asia all in American Schools overseas.   He also was at ASFM in Monterrey, Mexico and at U.T.P.A. in Edinburg, Texas.
He was involved with many organizations which included the University of Washington Alumni Organization, Chair of the Riverbank, California Wine & Cheese Expo, former President of the Chamber of Commerce also in Riverbank, California from 1975 to 1982, and a member of ACSA (Association for Credentialed School Administrators.  He was a member of the Naval Air Reserve in Seattle, Washington and a School Board Member at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church School in Harlingen, Texas.
Dick is survived by his wife, Dianne McVeigh of Harlingen; children, Suzan (McVeigh) Blankenship of Compton, CA, Richard McVeigh of Long Beach, CA, Martin McVeigh of Long Beach, CA and Chad Cottrell of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Stephen Guerrero of San Antonio, TX, Crystal Guerrero of Long Beach, CA and Corbin McVeigh of Anaheim, CA; uncle, L.G. Vigie of Huntington, CA; cousin, Patricia (McVey) Stickman of Temecula, CA.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Wayne McVeigh and step-son, Troy Cottrell.
Memorial services will be held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Harlingen, 4:00 PM, Tuesday, October 29, 2013 with Fr. Scott Brown officiating.
Services and burial will follow at the All Souls Cemetery & Mausoleum in Long Beach, CA at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that those desiring to do so may make memorial donations to the St. Alban’s Church School, 1417 E. Austin, Harlingen, TX  78550.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks and gratitude to the entire Health Care Team @ Retama Manor Nursing Home in Harlingen and to Odyssey Hospice for all their care and concern.
