Ricardo Gomez, Sr.

“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21

Surrounded by those he most loved, Ricardo Gomez, Sr., went home to be with his Savior and Lord, on September 18, 2018.  Ricardo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.

He was employed by the San Benito Consolidated Independent School District in the Maintenance Department until his retirement.  Ricardo was previously employed by Marathon LeTourneau in Pt. Isabel, TX.

Ricardo was born to Ruperto and Angelita Benavidez Gomez on November 23, 1932 in Carricitos, Texas. He was of the Christian faith and faithfully served in many capacities in the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruperto Gomez and Angelita Benavidez Gomez; granddaughters, Lorena Gomez and Elizabeth P. Palacios.

Left to treasure Ricardo’s memory are his loving wife of 64 years Sixta M. Gomez; children Irasema G. (Raul) Lopez, Leticia G. (Ramon) Galvan, Noemi “Mimi” Gomez, and Ricardo (Olivia), Gomez, Jr., Ruben Roberto Gomez; grandchildren Roxanne Galvan Lopez, Eric Michael Lopez, Amy Yvette Lopez Narvaez, Priscilla Puente Rivera, Rick Galvan, Amanda Gomez Valdez, Ricardo Gomez III, and Hilario Ortiz Jr; great-grandchildren Jacqueline Elaine Cardenas, Rebekah Nadine Cardenas, Sophia Elise Lopez, Emma Karina Lopez, Yliana Noemi Narvaez, Natalia Soledad Narvaez, Ignacio Esai Narvaez,  Leylah Rivera, Jared Rivera, Jeremiah Rivera, Aaron Michael Galvan, Ethan Michael Galvan, Ilana Marie Galvan, Andy James Valdez, Hilario Ortiz III, Anissa Ortiz, Andy Ortiz, Mia Ortiz, Christian D. Palacios Sanchez, and Olivia Palacios Cordoba; great-great-grandchildren Jordan Dre Hernandez, Nayeli Nevae Hernandez, Camille Amri Lopez, Adalyn Elizabeth Sanchez, Avery Isabella Hernandez, and Landon James Cordoba, brothers Ramiro (Anita) Gomez, Sr., Samuel (Victoria) Gomez, Federico (Juana) Gomez, and Reynaldo (Margarita) Gomez; sisters Irma (Juan+) Atkinson and Eva (Eleazar+) Perez; brother-in-law Hilario (Evangelina) Ortiz, Sr.

Ricardo’s family will be receiving friends and relatives on Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 4:00 to 9:00 PM at San Benito Funeral Home.  There will be a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 PM.  A Homegoing Service will be celebrated on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Mont Meta Memorial Park Mausoleum.  Following the service, Ricardo will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as Active Pallbearers are Eric M. Lopez, Rick Galvan, Ricardo Gomez, III, Aaron M. Galvan, Ethan M. Galvan, and Hilario Ortiz, Jr.  Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Ruben Gomez, Ricardo Gomez, Jr., Robert Lopez, Ignacio Narvaez, Jaime Valdez, Alex Hernandez, and Carlos Rivera.

The Gomez family wishes to express special thanks to Ricardo’s daily caregivers Ruben Gomez, Roxanne Galvan, and Jacqueline Cardenas, Kindred Hospice Affiliates, and Pastor Danny Garza of Abundant Life Church, Harlingen, TX for all the support they provided.
