Elvera “Vera” was born on September 1, 1916, in a little wooden house on Canal Street in New Orleans, Louisianna. She died on July 25th, 2024, in Harlingen, Texas at 107 years of age.
Vera was raised and educated in New Orleans during the great depression. She met Douglas Reynolds in New Orleans. They were married on May 22, 1937, in New Orleans and moved to Guatemala. Douglas worked for the United Fruit Company. Desiree and Daphne were both born in Guatemala. In 1952 the Reynolds family moved back to the United States and eventually moved to Harlingen. Miles and Dawn were born in Harlingen. Douglas worked with his brother, Maurice Reynolds, in their business, Valley Hardware and Supply. Douglas died in 1991 and Vera was a widow for 33 years. Vera lived alone and drove until she was 96. Vera loved to cook and made her family around the kitchen table. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church for 72 years.
She is survived by her children, Desiree Reynolds Buckley of Sun City, Florida, Dawn Reynolds Floyd of Brownsville, Miles Reynolds (Lourdes) of South Padre Island, and our adopted sister, Virginia Reynolds May of Harlingen. Vera leaves 9 grandchildren, Carey Morrow (Laura), Sarah Floyd (Jose), Darrell Pfalzgraf (Marissa), John Pfalzgraf (Taryn), Jeffery Becker (Sheran), Darrell Becker (Kirsten), Troy Becker (Jerry), Ashley Becker, and Dominique Reynolds (Fran). She has 24 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Elvera was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas M. Reynolds and her daughter, Daphne Reynolds Becker.
The Reynolds family would like to thank Mrs. Norma Galvan of San Benito for her hard work, dedication and love she gave to our mother, Elvera Goldate Reynolds, for 12 years.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock Wednesday evening. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
