Rev. José A. "Joe" Torres, Jr.

Rev. José Ángel “Joe” Torres, Jr., 70, closed his eyes to this world and opened them to see the face of his Lord and Savior on September 2, 2020.  A native of San Benito, Texas, Joe was born to the late José Ángel and Consuelo Martinez Torres on May 16, 1950.

He was a minister of the Gospel for over 35 years and pastored several congregations in the Rio Grande Valley and Matamoros, Tamps, México.  Joe loved baseball and was a lifelong fan of the Houston Astros.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, José Ángel and Consuelo Torres; his sister, Perla Robinson, his brothers, Lorenzo and Rudolfo Torres; and his second wife, Yolanda Torres.

Left to cherish Joe’s memory are his wife, Ludivina Torres; daughters, Esmeralda (Juan) De Los Santos, Dr. Melissa (Dayron Almesiga) Torres; stepsons, John Reyes, Michael (Sonia) Reyes, Steve Reyes; stepdaughter, Treicy Rivera; grandchildren, Michael, Jr., John, Jr., Bianca, Timothy, Julian, London, and Jose Luis.

A Celebration of Life Service take place on Thursday, September 3, 2020 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home.  A Graveside Service will take place on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. at San Benito Memorial Park (City Cemetery).

Honored to serve as active pallbearers are Juan De Los Santos, Dayron Almesiga, John Reyes, Tony Guzmán, and Oren Cortez.  Steve Reyes will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Floral tributes for Joe will be received at San Benito Funeral Home.  Memorial donations in his honor may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.st.jude.org).
