Rebecca was born on March 2, 1955 in Harlingen, Texas to Eugene F. Porucznik and Ruth Virginia Waters.  She grew up in Harlingen, Texas.  Becky attended St. Anthony’s Parochial school, graduated from Harlingen High School in 1973 and from Texas A&I in 1977.  She taught art, elementary school, and reading at many schools in the state of Texas.  She was currently teaching at Cummings Middle School in Brownsville.
Rebecca devoted her life to trying to make life better for each and every child she taught.  She went out of her way to tutor students and help them improve their academic skills.  Rebecca would also spend her time and own money to provide for students and children in need.  She truly cared about all children.
Rebecca was a very talented artist.  Her first degree was in Art.  She was commissioned several times for paintings and art projects, but gave this up for teaching.  Rebecca had just decided she would go back to her art.  She planned to retire next year and start painting again.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her father Eugene Porucznik and her first husband Wayne O’Keefe.  She is survived by her only child, Austin Scott Pemelton and his wife Katherine Pemelton of Harlingen, Texas, Her mother, Ruth W. Porucznik of Harlingen, Texas, her sister, Kathleen Hoffman of San Antonio, Texas, and Kathleen’s son Shane Hadlock and his wife, Melissa Hadlock, sister Pamela Zukotynski and  her husband, Dr. George Zukotynski, and her nieces Megan and Christine Zukotynski of Franklin, Tennessee.  She was also survived by her Aunt B. J. Hennessee, cousins Karen Hennessee, and Beverly and Jack York and their two children, Clinton and Stacy York, and Becky’s ex-husband James Pemelton and his two sons, Jeff and Kelly Pemelton.  She was also survived by her relatives the Spears family and her family in Pennsylvania.
We were so blessed to have had an angel among us for such a short time.  We hope everyone at sometime in their life knows one of God’s rare flowers, such as, Rebecca Ellen Pemelton.
Visitation will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Saturday, March 21, 2009 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 1417 E. Austin St., Harlingen, TX on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at 2 p.m. with a graveside service to be held at Mont Meta Memorial Park at 4 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Jack York, Clint York, Shane Hadlock, Myles Spears, Ryan Staley, and Jeff Pemelton.
