Raymond Eugene Lewis, 76, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 16, 2009.
Raymond was born on October 28, 1932 to Jesse and Anne Lewis in Beachfork, WV. He married Lorraine McIntyre in 1986 in Las Vegas.
After being discharged from the Navy in 1952, he traveled to Detroit, MI to visit a sister and took a job working for Earl C. Smith Freight as a truck driver. He retired from there in 1987 after 32 years.
He soon became bored with retirement so he and his wife bought a motel in Gaylord, MI which they owned and operated for 7 years. In 1994, they bought a 5th wheel and headed south, spending their winter at Fig Tree Resort, Harlingen, TX and summers visiting family and friends in Michigan, Vermont, and places in between. In 2001 they purchased their home at Sunshine Country Club Estates where he enjoyed golfing, playing pool, cards and many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Lorraine Lewis; sister Eva Payne of Mocksville, NC; daughters, Cathy (John) Martino of Troy, MI and Sylvia (Paul) Vadovic of Shelby Township, MI; son, Ray II of Madison Heights, MI; step children, Cathy McIntyre of Wells, VT and Jay (Donna) McIntyre of Rochester, VT; grandchildren: Dominic, Amanda, Brooke, and Nick Martino, Rachel Lewis, Eric and Amanda Holtz, and Catrina (Miki) Petrovic; four great grandchildren, Dylan Lewis, Austin and Cathrin Denis, and Luca Petrovic; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Bernard, and sisters Mary, Francis, Ruth, Yvonne, Sylvia, Bernice, and Lucille.
Burial will be held in Michigan at a later date.
