Rachel (Correa) Kretz

Rachel Correa Kretz, 77, passed peacefully from this life on February 21, 2022 with her family by her side. She was born to Raul and Eva Garza on July 20, 1944 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Rachel was a Rio Hondo High School graduate and attended Del Mar College, Corpus Christi. She was a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen and then a school nurse at the Los Fresnos CISD for 30 years. Rachel assisted with transporting special needs students to a summer camp with the Lions Club, spent a decade as a board member of Los Fresnos Little League Baseball, then 12 years as a Los Fresnos Athletic Booster Club Board Member, and a lifelong member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Rachel loved watching Hallmark, completing word search/crossword puzzles and enjoyed the company of her pet, Pepito.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Kretz and her parents Raul and Eva Garza.

Left to treasure her memory are her children Ronald L. Kretz (Clare) of San Antonio, Richard D. Kretz (Chris) of Los Fresnos and Randy W. Kretz (Irene) of Harlingen, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 6:30 p.m. (Click the link below to view a livestream of the Rosary.)

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Los Fresnos. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Ronald Kretz, Richard Kretz, Randy Kretz, Joe Garza Cantu, Eddie Garza, Jacob Garza. Honorary pallbearers are Raul Steve Garza, Douglas Kretz, Rylan Kretz and Aurelio Compean.

Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of choice.

The Kretz Family would like to thank Rachel's caregivers in the Rio Grande Valley, Blanca and Patti and in San Antonio Angelique, Rachel and Caitlin. The family would also like to thank the spouses of the Kretz Boys - Irene for caring for Mom early in illness, for Chris sharing her home for family gatherings, and for Clare opening up her home for Mom to spend her last months in comfort.
