Porfirio Diaz, 78, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, in Harlingen, Texas. Born on December 12, 1945, in La Paloma, Texas, he was the son of Jose and Esperanza Diaz.
Porfirio dedicated 27 years to the San Benito Consolidated Independent School District Maintenance Department, where he served as foreman until his retirement. His commitment to his work exemplified his strong work ethic and dedication to service.
A devoted member of Iglesia Gloria en Gloria, Porfirio had a deep passion for music, often expressing himself through playing and singing. He cherished his family unconditionally, always striving to bring them joy and comfort. Porfirio took pride in caring for his home, yard, and beloved pets, and he was known for his willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. Above all, his greatest love was God.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Diaz; mother, Esperanza Castillo Diaz; siblings, Maria Juarez, Guadalupe Diaz, Concepcion Diaz; daughter, Maria del Jesus Diaz; and daughter-in-law, Linda C. Diaz.
Porfirio is remembered and cherished by his wife of 58 years, Carlota Diaz; his children, Jorge Luis Gonzales (Susana), Juan Ricardo Diaz (Dahlia), Maria del Rosario (Joseph) Martinez, Monica Benavides (Ramiro), and Melinda Guadalupe Diaz; as well as 20 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his siblings, Pascual (Ernestina) Diaz, Consuelo (+Leovigildo) Puente, Celia Diaz and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family expresses their gratitude to those who reached out to him and offered support—family, friends, and pastors who provided encouragement and prayers during this time.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A prayer service will begin at 7 o’clock on Friday evening. Services will conclude after the prayer service.
