Phyllis Ann Gorgol

August 4, 1926 — May 26, 2015

Phyllis Ann (Hutchings) Gorgol returned to GOD our Father on May 26, 2015.
Born August 4, 1926 in Johnson City, NY and raised on Binghamton, NY’s south side, Phyll graduated from BNHS in 1944.  Phyllis and David O. (also a Binghamtonian) married on March 26, 1945. Sandra and David W. were born in 1946 and 1948, respectively. In late 1948 Phyll and the children traveled via troop ship to the Philippines to join David O., an Army Captain assigned to secure the post-WWII Manila area communist terrorists. They met the young Philippine politicians Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos, who hosted many parties for the US military. This was heady stuff for a 22-year old from a small upstate NY town.
Upon their return to the States the Gorgols lived in El Paso, TX and Kennewick, WA before landing in the San Francisco, CA area about 1950.  Later the family settled in Binghamton, NY until 1968, when David O. was offered a job in Nashua, NH.  As that company expanded, David and Phyll were transferred to the Silicon Valley, CA in 1972.  Upon David’s retirement in 1980 the couple moved to Laguna Vista, TX for the fishing and the warmer weather.
Phyll was an accomplished organist, portrait photographer, artist/painter of fine art and hand-crafter, and enjoyed practicing all these gifts in her retirement.  After her husband died in 1997 she lived alone for several years before David W. and his wife moved in with her in 2000.  When they suddenly moved out in mid-2006,  the rest of the family was concerned about Phyll, then aged 81, living alone so in early 2007 Sandra relocated from CA to live with Phyll until her death.
Phyll is predeceased by her parents Donald E and Erma (Hessling) Hutchings of Binghamton and Chenango Bridge, NY and her sister Delores (Lori) Griffith of Endwel, NY, in addition to her husband of 52 years.  Of course we can’t forget the many pets aka fur-kids over the years; Heaven just wouldn’t be Paradise without our pets.  I bet mom had quite a welcoming committee both human and furry.
Survived by: daughter Sandra E. (Gorgol) Henaghan of Laguna Vista, TX and granddaughter Lorrie A. Herron of MN; son David W. Gorgol (TX) and grandsons Jason, James and John-Paul Gorgol of Vista, CA; also 4 great-grandchildren of Vista, CA.  Additionally, her sisters-in-law Ruth (Gorgol) Hughston of FL and F.Hope Gorgol of NC will miss Phyllis.
Mom will be sorely missed by all family and many friends. She was a peace maker and the glue that held the far-flung family together.  Her loving spirit touched many lives.
