Petra Manzano San Pedro

SAN BENITO, TX. – Petra Manzano San Pedro, born on September 17, 1920 in Cerritos, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, died on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. She was 94.

Petra was also known as Doña Petra by her neighbors and “Ma” Petra by her grandchildren. She was a faithful and devoted parishioner at St. Theresa Catholic Church, a charter member of the Vela Perpetua and Sagrado Corazon. She was very proud of becoming a United States citizen and exercised her right to vote in local, county, state, and national elections. Doña Petra enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Her pride and joy was passing those cooking skills to her son Gilberto. She instilled her religious beliefs and upbringing for her children to be respectful and hardworking. “Su orgullo de siempre seran sus hijos.”

Her husband, Jose San Pedro, Sr.; parents, Eustacio and Santos Manzano; and brothers, Juan Manzano and Hipolito Manzano, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children Marina Serbantez (Jesus), Jose San Pedro, Jr. (Emerita), Maria Santos San Pedro, and Gilberto San Pedro (Sylvia); brother, Lucio Manzano; sister, Virginia Manzano; eight grandchildren Bernadette Serbantez, Angelita Garcia, Teresita San Pedro, Gilbert San Pedro, Jr., Erica Prieto, Jose Carlos San Pedro, Nicolas San Pedro, and Anthony Juan San Pedro; ten great-grandchildren; and former daughter-in-law, Hermelinda San Pedro.

Visiting hours are tomorrow, Sunday, May 31, 2015, beginning at one o’clock in the afternoon and concluding at nine o’clock at night, with a recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o’clock in the evening within the San Benito Funeral Home Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 1, 2015 at ten o’clock in the morning, in St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1300 Combes Street, San Benito, Texas 78586. Committal services will then follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
