Petra V. Alexandre

Petra V. Alexandre, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away August 6, 2017.  She was born on February 3, 1926 to Antonio Villarreal and Maria Cruz Cepeda Villarreal in Mercedes, Texas.

Petra and her husband, Jose Luis Alexandre, Jr., opened Alexandre’s Jewelry in San Benito, Texas in 1958. She found great joy in working alongside her husband in making their family business successful.  Petra loved stringing pearl necklaces and knotting them the “old school” way, one by one.  She was the consummate business woman, finding great pleasure in meeting and talking with every customer. Before entering the jewelry business with her husband, Petra’s strong work ethic traced its roots in her early years working long hours in in the fields and packing citrus fruit.  After working Monday through Saturday in the family business, Petra enjoyed her leisure time growing roses in her backyard flower garden and cooking for her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Luis Alexandre, Sr., her parents, Antonio and Maria Cruz Villarreal, her sister, Luisa Pedraza Aguirre, and her brothers, Jesus More, Rafael Villarreal, Manuel Villarreal, and Felix Villarreal.  She is survived by her children, Mary Alexander (Delfin Hernandez), Gracie Villalobos (Roberto), Jose Luis Alexandre, Jr. (Rose), Robert Alexandre, Mary Alicia Leal (Ramiro), and Yolanda Brydone (Jim), fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

The Alexandre family will be receiving family and friends at San Benito Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, San Benito, Texas.  Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
