Peter Michael Douglas, III

Peter Michael Douglas, III, 70, a son of the late Peter Michael Douglas, Jr. and Barbara Christina Douglas, passed away at his home in Harlingen, Texas of natural causes on Friday, September 6, 2019; one month after losing his beloved wife, Norma Duvall Douglas.

A 1967 graduate of Phillipsburg Catholic, Peter was an active member of St. Phillip & St. James Catholic Church in Phillipsburg, NJ where he served as an altar boy for several years. After graduation from Phillipsburg Catholic High School in 1967, Peter enlisted in the Air Force and was honorably discharged in February, 1972.  In 2014, Peter was elected as the first African-American Commander of East Pasadena’s American Legion Post #9’s 87 year history serving for two terms.  Peter was employed by Bank of America and was an integral part of the We the People task force, receiving commendation for his exceptional oversight.  Later in life he became an entrepreneur, as the owner of his own limousine service in Los Angeles.

Peter put aside his baseball caps and donned cowboy hats and boots after moving from Pasadena California to Harlingen, Texas in 2015. He was active in Corinth Missionary Baptist Church of Harlingen where he served as an usher and as a mentor to the young boys in the congregation.

Peter is survived by his paternal uncle, Emanuel Douglas, of Moreno Valley, CA, his son, Peter Michael Douglas IV, of Easton, PA, two sisters Leslie, of Washington, DC and Michelle of Los Angeles, CA and one brother, Michael also of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Kiana of Allentown, PA, Mya and Aliyah Douglas of Easton, PA, Tommy Border of Nazareth, PA, and ten nieces and nephews in California and Virginia and his faithful service companion, Forrest, and a host of close cousins and extended family.

A memorial service is being planned in Harlingen (date to be determined) and one at American Legion Post 280, 179 N.Vinedo Ave., Pasadena CA 91107 (626-792-8838) on October 19 to celebrate both Peter and Norma.  An east coast memorial is also being planned (date and time be announced).

Cremation services were provided by Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home 710 Ed Carey Drive, Harlingen, Texas 78550. (956) 423-3636.
