Harlingen, TX:
Peggy Jeanne Boggus passed away Tuesday, March 19 at the age of 80. She was at home with her family when she lost a long-fought battle with lung disease. Peggy was born on December 19, 1927 in Houston, Texas and was the only child of B.W. and Blanche Long. She is preceded in death by her parents and son Jack Boggus.
A graduate of Harlingen High School, Peggy went on to Mary Hardin Baylor College. She then transferred to and graduated from South West Texas State before marrying Frank Boggus and moving to Texas A & M University.
Peggy was involved in many organizations in Harlingen and contributed to many different charities throughout the Valley. She was a long-time member of the Harlingen Junior Service League and was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter T. She was Wesley United Methodist Church.
Peggy enjoyed taking part in the establishment of the Valley’s Ronald McDonald House. She was always available for giving her wise insights and never said “no” to a request for her help. She is the only Lifetime Board Member of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Rio Grande Valley.
With a life-long love for animals of all kinds, Peggy was a big supporter of the Harlingen Humane Society. As a child, she spent much time on South Padre Island with her parents and instilled a special love of the beach and all of its treasures into her children and grandchildren. Family and friends will always hold close memories of the wonderful times spent on the Island with Peggy and Frank. Both were committed to having a house of God on the Island, and were instrumental in the building of the Chapel By the Sea. They remained involved by serving on the board.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Frank Boggus. She is also survived by her daughter Barbara Sue Tucker of Harlingen, son Bob Boggus (Karen) of McAllen, and daughter-in-law Jo Ann Boggus of Harlingen and her long-time and devoted caregiver Rita “Boggus” Gutierrez. Peggy was the proud “Granny” to grandchildren Maudie Tomlin (Skeet), Allison Horak, Ashley Santos (Carlos), Austin Boggus (Kim), Katie Boggus, Jacob Boggus, and James Boggus. Also surviving are her two great-grandchildren, Londyn Santos and Sterling Tomlin.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and doctors who cared for her at home and during her short hospital stay; Sandi Jo Funk Hospice, Frances Mir (Mir Senior Care Management), and her physician, Dr. Bruce Leibert who always gave us hope and made her laugh.
