Pedro “Pete” P. Sierra was born on June 29, 1929 in Salamanca, Guanajuato, Mexico and passed away on March 5, 2021.
The Sierra family migrated to the United States and became farm laborers in the early 1950’s. The Sierras were a very devout Catholic family. As a young teen, Pedro worked at a gas station in San Benito pumping gasoline, cleaning car windows, and washing cars. To help his family financially, Pedro left for Chicago and worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad for over 30 years until his retirement.
In Chicago, he met the love of his life, Gloria Callaway. Pedro and Gloria had four beautiful children whom he loved dearly. He returned to San Benito after his retirement.
Pedro was well liked by all who met him, not only for his smile, but also for his sense of humor. After returning to San Benito after his retirement, anyone who asked Pete for help around the house got his usual response, “I worked in Chicago for the railroad for 30 years.” It was his way of saying, “No”. Many who knew him called him Tio Pete or Uncle Pete. He will be dearly missed.
Pedro is preceded in death by his ex-wife Gloria Callaway; grandson, Andrew Young; parents, Luciano Sierra and Dolores Perez Sierra; brother, Carlos P. Sierra; sisters, Augustina S. Cuellar, Socorro Carranza, Altagracia S. Segura; brothers-in-law, Chevo Cuellar, Jesus Carranza, Antonio Segura, and Evaristo Moreno; sons-in-law, Michael Young and Michael Barbee;
He is survived by his sons, Michael Sierra and Pedro Sierra; daughters, Dolores Barbee and Suzy Young; brother, Gregorio P. (Guadalupe) Sierra; sisters, Cecilia (Santos) Barrientos, Margarita S. (Salome) Martinez and Rosa Moreno; grandchildren, Justin Barbee, Ashley Riggs, Victoria Peyton Sierra, and Jessica Morgan Sierra; great-grandchildren, Landon Young and Emma Grace Riggs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
