Pedro "Pete" Martinez

Pedro “Pete” Martinez, of Harlingen, Texas, peacefully passed April 6, 2023 at this home at the age of seventy-two. Pete was born to the late Juan and Eva Martinez on April 20, 1950 in San Benito, Texas.

He retired from CPL/AEP after forty-five years of dedicated service. In his leisure time, Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cooking. To his family and friends, he was a BBQ Pit Master. However, Pete’s greatest pleasure was loving on his grandchildren.

Pete is preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Eva Martinez, and his brother, Juan “JAM” Martinez.

Left to treasure Pete's memory is his loving wife, Sara French Martinez; his children, Sara Michelle (Andrew Paul) Ludwig, Victoria “Tori” Jayne (Timothy Richard) Oberhelman, and Pete Martinez, Jr; grandchildren, Andrew Francis Ludwig, Thor Michael Oberhelman, and Laurel Jayne Oberhelman; his siblings, Santa (Frank) Serrata, Margarita “Margie, Daniel “Danny” (Leticia “Letty”), and María de Jesús “Susie” Martinez. He is also survived by his in-laws, Patricia “Patti” (Larry) Neblett; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Hill, Stephanie (Rey), Claire (Frank), Frank (Krystal), J.D., Samantha (Robert); great-nieces and great-nephews, Krysta, Jordyn, Jack, and Georgia; and his faithful pet, Rusty.

Special thanks to Bee First Hospice for their care and compassion in Pete’s end-of-life care. Also, thank you to the knowledgeable and caring nurses at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen.

Pete’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A prayer service will begin at 4:00 p.m.  A graveside service and interment will take place Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Ludwig, Tim Oberhelman, Danny Martinez, Frank Achtsam, Vicente Arismendi, Robbie Montemayor, Tomas Martinez Sr., and J.D. Martinez.
