Harlingen, TX- Pedro H. Perez entered into eternal rest Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the age of 87 in Harlingen, Texas after months of battling lung cancer.
Pedro was born to Lucio and Maria Perez on June 29, 1924 in San Jose, Texas. After being honorably discharged from the United States Army Corps in 1946, he became a farmer who harvested cotton and grain in the floodway area between Combes and Sebastian. Pedro was a very loving, compassionate, and hardworking man, who had a strong sense of family and Catholic faith. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and had many friends. He had a positive, radiant energy that permeated those around him. He is well known for his sense of humor and was always telling funny jokes. He had a natural love of music and taught himself to play the trumpet, the guitar and the accordion. Pedro had a green thumb, which allowed him to plant and harvest many kinds of fruit and vegetables. He was especially known for his delicious watermelons that he generously gave to family and friends.
Mr. Perez is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Eva Cortez Perez; his parents, Lucio and Maria Perez; his daughter, Sandra Leticia Perez; his brothers, Margarito Perez, Abelardo Perez and Mario Perez; and his sisters, Aurora Flores and Manuela “Nela” Gibson.
Pedro will be missed and remembered by his children, Louie (Nora) Perez, Pete (Sylvia) Perez, Jr., Rene (Martina) Perez, Diana (David) Palacios, and Jerry (Nelly) Perez; his brothers, Feliciano Perez, Dion Perez, and Jose Angel Perez; his sisters, Hermina “Mina” Perez and Guadalupe “Pita” de Los Rios; and his grandchildren, Sandra, Amanda, and Jessica Perez; Liliana, Nicholas and Myra Perez; David and Angela Palacios; and Eva Renae Perez.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 10:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M with the Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 P.M. at San Benito Funeral Home.
The funeral precession will depart San Benito Funeral Home on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 1:30 P.M. for a 2:00 P.M. Funeral Mass at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Harlingen. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
