Paulino Huerta, Jr., loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, and diehard Greyhound football fan, passed peacefully from this life December 30, 2021 at the age of 85. He was born to the late Paulino Huerta, Sr. and Guadalupe R. Huerta on November 2, 1936 in San Benito, Texas.
He was a proud graduate of San Benito High School, Class of 1958. In 1959, Paulino enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
He was a valued employee of Harlingen CISD until his retirement after 30 years of faithful service. In his leisure time, Paulino enjoyed sports, fishing, playing Chalupa, telling stories, dancing, and spending time with his family. He will live forever in our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paulino Sr. and Guadalupe R. Huerta; son, Paulino Huerta III; great-granddaughter, Tiana M. Huerta; brother, José Huerta; sisters, Delia H. Garza, Maria Huerta, and Irma Huerta; niece, Alma Gloria Huerta; sister-in-law, Noemi Huerta; and brother-in-law, Margarito Huerta.
Left to treasure Paulino’s memory is his loving wife, Carmen C. Huerta; their children, Guadalupe J. Huerta (Sandra), Sulema Huerta (Esteban Rodriguez), Nelda Garza (Noe), and Manuel Roel Huerta; grandchildren, Paulino Huerta IV, Clarissa Valdez, Jaime Huerta Jr., Jeremy Huerta, Jacob Huerta, Angelica Huerta, Nadia K. Garza, Nerissa K. Garza; great-grandchildren, Paulino Huerta V, Taelyn Huerta, Kalea Valdez, Jazziah M. Huerta, Jayson M. Huerta, Jazmyn M. Huerta, Scarlet Huerta, Raiden Huerta, Jeremy Huerta Jr.; daughter-in-law, Mary Huerta; siblings; Ruben Huerta, Alejandro Huerta (Fela), Gloria A. Huerta, Horacio R. Huerta, Alfredo Huerta (Josefina); uncle, Pedro Rodriguez; and, numerous nieces and nephews.
The Huerta family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, January 7, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 6:30 p.m. (Click the link below to view a live-stream of the Rosary.)
On Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Theresa Catholic Church, the Rev. Fr. Joe Villalón, Jr., Celebrant. Following the Mass, Paulino will be laid to rest with full military honors at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Zeke Lopez, David Guajardo, Jacob Huerta, Paulino Huerta IV, and Joe Valdez. Manuel Huerta, Guadalupe J. Huerta, Noe E. Garza, and Paulino Huerta V will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family wishes to thank the medical professionals of Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen, Solara Specialty Hospitals-Harlingen, Mid Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, and Knapp Medical Center for their compassionate care.
Paulino’s family also extends sincere thanks to the staff of St. Theresa Catholic Church and faith community for their continued prayers.
