Paula G. Rodriguez

January 25, 1924 — February 16, 2024

San Benito, Texas

Paula Garza Rodriguez, 100, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2024 in Brownsville, Texas.  She was born to Felicitas Garza on January 25, 1924 in Brownsville, Texas.

Paulita though small in stature, showed tremendous strength when it came to taking care of her home and her yard.  She was blessed to have good neighbors such as Juan Barrientos and Ernesto Rodriguez who made time to visit, help maintain her yard and made repairs.  The list is long and filled with gratitude to all who reached out to Paulita through the years.  She would always look forward to Sundays.  Mario would bring her kind words, encouragement, and Holy Communion.

She was of the catholic faith and a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Paulita had a gift for growing the most beautiful flowers that brought a smile to all who would visit.  Her goodness did not end there as she prepared meals in her cocina for all and all seasons that included delicious tamales that were enjoyed at her table or sent “con cariño” to family and friends as sabroso (delicious) regalitos (gifts). To sit at the table in fellowship and enjoyed a meal was her great joy that could not be turned down and will always be remembered by us all with heartwarming gratitude.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Felicitas Garza; her brother, Miguel Garza; her son Hermilo Rodriguez, her daughter, Otila Montalvo; her son-in-law, Guadalupe Montalvo; her daughters-in-law, Hudelia Rodriguez, Lile Lucio Rodriguez, Raquel Rodriguez.

Left to treasure Paulita’s memory are her children, Oscar Rodriguez, Manuel Rodriguez Jr., Cayetano Rodriguez (Estella), Arnold Rodriguez (Wilda), Guadalupe Rodriguez (Janie), Arnulfo Rodriguez (Norma), Cesar Rodriguez (Paula), Gloria Caram (Tony, Sr.), Ninfa Zavala (Jesus) and Norma Rodriguez; 40 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

We express our sincere gratitude to the following who provided care and support: Catalina Rodriguez, Maria Lucy Rocha de Cantu, Health Care Unlimited, Inc., Our Caring Hands, Dr. Norma Schacherl with San Benito Medical Associates, Dr. Luis Robles, and Valley Regional Hospital staff and nurses.
