Viola(Vi) was born in Harlingen, TX to Juan and Jesusa Contreras. She married Walter A. Hext, Sr., who died in 1979. She later married Lester Dart, who died in 1995. She was predeceased by her brother Angel Contreras, sister Teresa Rendon and her beloved son, John J. Hext. She is survived by her children, Dr. George L. Viola lived in the Briggs Coleman area as a farmer and farmer's wife. In later years she went to work at the Valley Baptist Hospital in the laundry room and advanced to a CNA by getting her GED at age 40. She was accepted into the nursing school, but gave up her dream to care for the two children still at home, putting their needs first.
After marrying Lester, Viola moved to Florida where she continued to work in a hospital in Orlando and was a mentor to Lester's son, Robert. They retired to Chiefland, Florida, where she became involved with the Log Cabin Quilting Club, and traveled with Lester til he passed. Viola returned to her farm in Harlingen then moved to Camelot and Canterbury Gardens. She was a volunteer at Valley Baptist Medical Center as long as her health allowed her to do so. She was acknowledged by the hospital for her dedication and given an honorary nurses cap. She was a devoted member of the Calvary Baptist Church before leaving to live with her daughter in Fredericksburg, VA. She became a member of Ramoth Baptist Church, Stafford, VA. She enjoyed her last three years watching the watermen work their boats at Rivah House and taught every health provider her favorite game of SkiBo. She had a full life and is with her Lord.
