Olga Corkill Rodriguez, 82, passed away peacefully at home on October 12th surrounded by her family after fighting a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on March 3, 1936 in San Benito, Texas to the late Frank Stafford Corkill and Olivia Munguia, and preceded in death by her siblings: Frank Stafford, Jr., Louis (Dolores) Corkill, Ramiro (Gloria) Corkill, Ricardo (Edolina) Corkill, Ofelia (Simon) Sanchez and Minerva (Raul) Vasquez
Survivors include her loving husband of 62 years, Rodolfo Rodriguez, her children: Analicia Rodriguez (Amanda), Gabriel Rodriguez (Graciela), and Patricia Espinoza (John); five grandchildren: Nikki, John Thomas, Gabriel II, Zachary and Alec. Siblings: Irma (Raul) Tamez, Elvira (Rodolfo) Guerra, Viola (Elogio) Gonzalez, Ruben (Gil) Corkill, step grandchild Alain and numerous nieces and nephews.
Olga graduated from San Benito High in 1955 and married in 1956. Nine years later, she and Rodolfo welcomed their first child, Analicia followed by Gabriel and Patricia. She dedicated her life to her children whom she adored and loved with a passion. After her children were grown, she went back to school and while juggling family, work and school, she graduated cum laude from Pan American University at Brownsville with a degree in Education.
Olga enjoyed watching tennis, Dancing with the Stars and playing Sequence with her children and grandchildren. She and Rudy loved spending time with their family at their favorite vacation spot on Frio River, and she loved finding pennies and collecting them in a jar. Olga loved to laugh, dance and sing songs. Her laughter, strength and dedication to family will always be remembered. The family would like to thank the following: Dr. Todd Shenkenberg, who cared for Olga for 32 years, Kindred Hospice, her caregivers: Maggie Guajardo, Angela Sierra and a very special thank you to Gisele Hernandez.
Friends and family will gather to remember Olga on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2018 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in San Benito. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
