Olga Maxine Abbott

Olga Maxine Abbott, 85, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2009 at her residence in Harlingen.
Maxine was born on a farm 12 miles southwest of Corpus Christi, TX on April 5, 1922.  She married John A. Abbott, I in 1941 and they were longtime residents and farmers of the area.
Maxine was instrumental in promoting the production and use of cotton and “made in the USA”products.  She was a Founding member of the Ladies For Cotton, Charter member of the National Cotton Women’s Committee and supported the Fashion Group International natural fiber fashion show.  She also was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harlingen
She is survived by her husband, John A. Abbott, I; sons, Jack Abbott and wife, Karen, Mark Abbott and wife, Susan; grandchildren, Heather Adair and husband, William, John Abbott, III, Mark Abbott, II, Luke Abbott, Julianne Abbott, Nathan Abbott, and Timothy Abbott; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents, A.L. Smith and Lurah Olga Taylor and brother, Dane Lamar Smith and his wife, Bettye.
Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, February 16, 2009 at the funeral home.  As per her wishes private burial will be held.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to the VBMC Family Practice Physicians, Darryl White and Seth Patterson, to her care takers and especially appreciates Luis loving devotion throughout Maxine’s years of need.
Maxine will be fondly remembered for devotion to cotton, homemade peach ice cream, cheers from the sidelines, and for her devotion to family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials may be made to VBMC Foundation, c/o Dane Lamar & Bettye Ann Smith Memorial Chapel, P.O. Drawer 2588, Harlingen, Texas 78551.
