Odessa Rachel Smith

HARLINGEN:
Odessa Rachel Smith, 89, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend peacefully died on October 25, 2007, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.  Odessa, a triplet, born in Pickwick, Texas on May 8, 1918 to Arnie Bell and Walter Barton Brown.  In 1925, her family moved to the Rio Grande Valley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.P. Smith; brothers Earl, Virgil, Irwin, Louie, Robert, Donald; and sisters, Cleo and Ofella.
She is survived by her twin sister Odella Cupp, sister, Mona Purcell, and a brother Calvin Brown.  Odessa has two daughters Sharon Woods (Bill) of El Paso, TX and Janice McKinney (Sid) of Harlingen, TX.  Odessa has seven grandchildren which include Bruce, Valerie, Stacy, Christy, Shane, Michelle, and Melissa; six great grandchildren which are Kari, Lauren, Stephen, Christopher, Justin and Joshua; two great great grandchildren, Ella and Alexander and many nephews, nieces, and two sister-in-law, Margie Brown and Marie Massey were part of her family.
Odessa will always be remembered for her love of the Bible, her words of wisdom, and her many stories about life events.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2007, 3 p.m., at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home with Elder Kevin Barkley officiating.
