La Feria:
Norma K. Burns, 85, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011 at her residence in La Feria.
Norma was born on October 15, 1925 in Harlingen, TX to J.J. (Slim) and Lois Dawson. She was raised and attended schools in Harlingen. On October 11, 1943 she married, George Melvin Burns and became residents of La Feria in the early 1950’s.
Norma was the head bookkeeper with the El Rod Gin in Harlingen during the 1950’s. She was a Lady with the Harlingen Elks Lodge and a member of the First Baptist Church in Harlingen.
Norma will be best remembered as a good hearted lady, family oriented and a great hostess. She also loved to do yard work and travel especially to La Vegas.
She is survived by her husband, George Burns of La Feria; daughter, Colleen Sue Catlett, and her husband, Gene of Port Isabel; son, Bob Burns of La Feria; grandchildren, Kevin and Tammie Catlett of La Vernia, TX, Kandis and Carl Hendricks of Austin, TX, Robert Allen and Krista Burns of Ardmore, OK, Christopher Jay and Laura Burns; great-grandchildren, Riley James Catlett, Madeline Hope Hendricks, Rebecca Elizabeth Hendricks, Riley Page Burns, Dawson Burns, and Cash and Londyn Burns; and numerous other family members
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, September 9, 2011 at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 10, 2011 with the Rev. Chris Hall officiating. Burial will follow at the La Feria Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family members.
