Nina Dunlap

March 17, 1929 — February 21, 2010

La Feria:
Nina Jean Dunlap, 80, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Retama Manor Nursing Home in Harlingen.
Nina was born on March 17, 1929 in Utopia, TX to Sylvester and Emma Mazurek.  She was Valedictorian of her high school class at Utopia, TX in 1946.
Nina had many interest, but her most treasured one’s were traveling to many different countries and hunting and fishing with family and friends.  In 1976 she was awarded the Distinguished Volunteer 4-H Leader of Texas from the Texas 4-H Foundation.
She was a member of many organizations and clubs and all were important to her.  She currently served as a member of the La Feria Bailey H. Dunlap Memorial Library Board; member of the Tropical Trails of Texas Hallmark Collectors Club; member of the Tip of Texas Orchid Society; Harlingen Junior Service League, La Feria 4-H Club Leader for many years; member of the Texas Citrus Mutual; member of the First Baptist Church in Harlingen.  She also was proud and honored of her volunteer service at the Crippled Children’s Cottage through the Junior Service League of Harlingen.
Survivors include her daughters, Jeanne Lee (Layne) Birdwell of College Station, TX, Betty Jo Dunlap of La Feria and Patricia Ann (Ruben) Vento of La Feria; son, Bailey Hague (Diann) Dunlap, IV of Harlingen; grandchildren, Clayton (Louise) Birdwell and Angela Birdwell; 3 step grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; brother, Leslie Mazurek of Utopia, TX; sisters, Geraldine Richardson of Bedford, TX and Eris Carroll of San Antonio, TX.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bailey Dunlap, Jr. brother, Hubert Mazurek and sister, Mary Allene Morehead.
Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 23, 2010 with Pastor Samuel Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, TX.
Pallbearers will be Carlis Bauer, David Mazurek, Raegan Mazurek, Robert Mazurek, Brian Morehead and Wally Morehead.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations may be made to the Bailey H. Dunlap Memorial Library, 400 S. Main, La Feria, TX 78559 or to M.D. Anderson Breast Cancer Research, PO Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Retama Manor Nursing Home in Harlingen, TX, the Odyssey Healthcare nurses and aides for their care and support and a special thank you to Maria Villa for her love and dedication to our mother and our entire family.
