Nelda Cavin was born on September 22,1949 and passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 1:20 p.m. at Valley Baptist Medical Center, surrounded by immediate family.
The daughter of Alejandro and Olivia G. Rosales, Nelda was born and raised in Harlingen, Texas. Nelda is survived by her husband of 29 years, Richard W. Cavin, sons Robert Cavin, Michael A. Cavin (Lori), sister Norma Chizer and mother Olivia G. Rosales.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alejandro Rosales and her brother, Armando Weaver (Anita).
Nelda attended grade school in Los Indios, TX and graduated with honors from San Benito High School. After starting her career with 10 years at Red Arrow Freight Lines she continued working another 26 years at Southwester Bell Telephone Company, later AT&T, in Harlingen, TX, Laredo, TX, and San Antonio, TX. Her career at Southwestern Bell/AT&T included management positions in business, engineering, and corporate operations mainly in San Antonio, TX. During her career she attended college and received a Bachelor of Liberal Arts with honors from Saint Edwards University in Austin, TX and a Master of Business Administration with honors from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX. She was a Member of Delta Mu Delta - Delta Lambda Chapter and Golden Key recipient at Our Lady of the Lake University.
Nelda was a great daughter, amazing mother, wonderful aunt and beloved wife. She succeeded in the business world as a leader when opportunities were not as prevalent for women in the work force. She took pride in everything she did and overcame numerous obstacles during her life. Her love and generosity were blessings to everyone who knew her. Nelda always had a smile on her face and was always willing to help others in need. She touched the lives of so many in her family, circle of friends and the business world. Hobbies included books, movies, music, casinos, travel, decorating, and television.
The family sincerely thanks the many medical professionals atMcAllen Heart Hospital, Harlingen Medical Center, and Valley Baptist Medical Center who helped her during her stays.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 23, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the holy rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 24, 2010, 2:00 p.m., at San Benito Funeral Home with Deacon Genaro Ibarra officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to United Blood Services, American Cancer Society, Catholic Charities or a charity of your choice.
