Myrtle Goss Wheelus

November 20, 1911 — May 17, 2016

Myrtle Goss Wheelus, age 104, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 17, 2016.  Myrtle was born November 20, 1911 in Louisiana to parents Jack and Sarah Goss.

As a longtime resident of 62 years in Santa Rosa, Texas, Myrtle was a devoted wife and mother to three children.  She enjoyed hobbies of gardening, cooking, decorating eggs, sewing, and making seasonal greeting cards for the health center and hospitals.  She also served in many capacities in her church as a member of First Baptist Church Santa Rosa and First Baptist Church Harlingen.   She was known for her sense of style that included lots of bling and all shades of pink.

She is survived by her family: daughter LaRue (Larry) Elliff, son Gary Wheelus, her grandchildren Teresa (Ronnie) Coleman, Randy (Michelle) Moorman, Laura (Bill) Mathis, Joe (Rosalie) Elliff, Bill (Merrillee) Elliff, Robin (Monica) Wheelus, 9 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years Lloyd Wheelus, daughter Margaret Ann Moorman, son-in-law Bob Moorman, daughter-in-law Kathy Wheelus, grandson Ronald Moorman and great-grandson Jarryd Elliff.

Myrtle has enjoyed her last 25 years at Golden Palms Retirement Center.  The family desires to acknowledge the loving providers who gave dedicated and professional care of Myrtle. The family would like to thank Cima Hospice and caregiver Claudia Gomez for their care and concern.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home officiated by Chaplain Chris Hall on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 2 p.m.  Burial will be private.
