Modesto H. Saavedra

Modesto H. Saavedra peacefully passed on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at the age of ninety-nine years. He was born to the late Catarino and Blasa Hernandez Saavedra on February 24, 1923 in San Benito, Texas.

Modesto was preceded in death by his first wife, Elena Domínguez Saavedra; second wife, María Macías; third wife, Petra Gutiérrez Saavedra; fourth wife,

Marcela “Chelo” Castillo; his parents; sisters, Ricarda S. Garcia and María Cortez; brother, Roberto Saavedra; and niece, Rosalva Hernandez.

He is survived by his son, Modesto Saavedra, Jr. (Frances); sister, Maria Vasquez; nieces, Rosalinda Garcia, Emelda Sweeney (Robert), Elida (Joe) Lane, Minerva Morrison; nephews, Johnny Garcia, Danny Hernandez (Jesse), Antonio Vásquez, Jr.; and numerous other extended family members.

Visitation will take place Monday, January 23, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A Prayer Service will begin at 7 o’clock on Monday evening. A Chapel Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, Modesto will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
