Modesto Tamayo, Jr., 79, peacefully passed from this life the evening of July 16, 2020. A San Benito, TX native, he was born on April 29, 1941 to the late Modesto and Teresa Villegas Tamayo.
Modesto retired from Arcelor-Mittal (formerly Inland Steel) after 30 years of service.
Since his very early youth, he loved fixing cars and was nicknamed “El Mecánico” by his friends. Later on, he fixed and sold cars.
Modesto adored his kids and grandkids and was extremely good to all of his stepfamily and always available to help anyone who needed it.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Modesto and Teresa V. Tamayo; a brother, Abraham Tamayo; a sister, Antonia Tamayo.
Left to treasure Modesto’s memory is his wife Noemi Castillo Tamayo; children, Rita (Ismael) Rodriguez, Modesto (Dawn) Tamayo, III; stepchildren, Debi (Maggie) Flores, Rev, G. Gerard (Cynthia) Flores, Rachel (John) Hidalgo; grandchildren, Thereasa (Dillon) Dukquits, Ismael (Alejandra, fiancé), Rodriguez, Jr., Modesto Tamayo, IV; step-grandchildren, Vannessa Rodriguez (Jacob) Reyes, Vannety Rodriguez (Josh) Hulsey, Tyler Fair, Wesley (Meagan) Flores, Jerry (Jeana) Flores, Jared (Brittney) Flores, Josh Flores, Carissa Hidalgo, Mirand Hidalgo; Great-grandchildren, Dean Dukquits and Davina Dukquits; siblings, Sara Alvarez, Gudalupe Martinez, Bertha Weaver, Eva Mata, and Cecilia Salazar Jackson; numerous nieces and nephews too many to mention, but all very special.
Modesto’s family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, July 20, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home. A prayer service will take place Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. A graveside service will take place Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Mont Meta Memorial Park after which Modesto will be laid to rest.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Modesto Tamayo, IV, Ismael Rodriguez, Jr., Abraham Tamayo, Jr., Samuel Tamayo, Abraham Weaver, and Ricky Alvarez. Ruben Noyola, Jose “Pepe” Rodriguez, and Gregorio “Nunie” Hernandez will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The Tamayo family thanks Alegre Home Healthcare, Angels Wings Hospice, McAllen Oncology, and Dr. Eugenio G. Galindo and staff for their kind, compassionate care.
