Minerva Gonzalez Martinez, 67, of San Benito, entered into the Lord’s Kingdom on November 23, 2008 at Valley Baptist Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on December 22, 1940 to Victorio and Delia Gonzalez in San Benito, TX, where she later met and married the love of her life, Raul Martinez.
Minerva had a beaming smile, a warm heart, and an engaging personality that endeared her to everyone she encountered. In her youth, she enjoyed singing and participating in singing contests at local theatres. She was a wonderful wife and mother to her husband and three children. Although she will deeply missed, her giving spirit, which touched our lives, will live in our hearts forever.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Antonio Gonzalez. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Raul, her children, Graciela (Rudy) Ramirez of Harlingen, Ernesto Martinez of Dallas and Gloria Ann (Jaime) Rodriguez of San Benito; her grandchildren, Aaron Joseph and Anissa Elizabeth Rodriguez and Daniel Rene Ramirez.
Also surviving her are: three brothers, Victor (Graciela) Gonzalez of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Ramiro (Margarita ) Gonzalez of Lansing, Michigan and Raul Gonzalez of Lansing, Michigan; four sisters: Ignacia (Eleno) Martinez of Hope Mills, North Carolina; Inocencia (Jose+) Bustamente of San Benito; Maria Eva (Gilberto) Conde of Carpentersville, Illinois; Maria Elena (Gilbert) Torres of San Benito and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Eddie Cruz, Leonel Bustamente, Tony Gonzalez, Jr., Rolando Pinon, Darrell Davila, and Shane Strubhart. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 1:00pm to 9:00pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00pm at San Benito Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at St. Teresa Catholic Church(1300 Combes, San Benito, TX) at 11:00am with burial to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
