Mildred G. Gilmore, 89, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016 at her residence in Harlingen, Texas.
Mildred was born November 4, 1926 in Athens, Georgia to Ruben and L.C. Johnson. She previously lived in Sanford, Florida before moving to Harlingen in 1976 when her husband began working at the Marine Military Academy.
Mildred is survived by a son, Steve Gilmore of McAllen, TX; daughter, Lisa Miller (Charles) of Harlingen, TX; granddaughter, Kayla Miller Olivarez of Harlingen, TX; and great grandson, Camden L. Olivarez of Harlingen, TX.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Sgt. Major Harvey M. Gilmore, USMC Ret. in 1993, sister, Virginia Burr (Johnson), and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at the Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 11, 2016 with the Rev. David Mann officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, Texas.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM till service time with the family present.
The family wishes to thank caregivers, Maria Paz for her years as the primary caregiver, Maria Sotoyo for her services as a caregiver, and Lucy Roesh, Elizabeth Bedolla and Dedra Rodriguez for their help as well.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations may be made to the Sgt. Major H.M. Gilmore Endowed Scholarship Fund, C/O Marine Military Academy, 320 Iwo Jima Blvd., Harlingen, Texas 78550.
