Elizabeth "Libby" Dodd

February 2, 1928 — May 2, 2018

Elizabeth (Libby) Dodd went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 2, 2018.

Libby was born on February 2, 1928, in Lyford Texas to Rush and Lilly Elizabeth Land.  Her grandparents, the H. H. Keenes, were among the first settlers of Lyford.  Libby was married to her loving husband, Morris Dodd, on May 1, 1944 for 63 years.

Libby was preceded in death by her parents, Rush and Lilly Elizabeth Land; her husband, Morris Dodd; her sister, Viola Swanson; her brother, Henry Land; her granddaughter, Melanie Jones Alexander; son-in-law, Malcolm Jones; and her grandson, D.J. Wood.  She is survived by her children, Bettie Thomas (Ben) and Brenda Jones, Morris “Butch” Dodd (Penny); grandchildren, Cindy Purvis; Raymond Thomas; Stephen Dodd; Michele Dodd; Michele Wood-Maschler; fifteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Libby’s hobbies included crocheting for family, friends and Lyford athletes.  For years she and Morris attended all of Lyford’s home basketball games.  In addition, she was a busy teacher substitute in Lyford schools from 1970 to 1990, following her years of working in the Raymondville Terry-Farris Department Store from 1957 to 1970.  Square dancing took her and Morris to local, state and national conventions and in their motor home they traveled to 45 states and Canada.  After retiring Libby taught craft classes at Carefree Valley in Combes to Winter Texans and friends.

Since 1939 Libby had been a member of the Lyford United Methodist Church until recently joining the Harlingen First Church of the Nazarene.  She enjoyed her years of teaching Sunday School, working with Methodist Youth Fellowship, United Methodist Women, and Bible study in her home.

A celebration of Libby’s life will be held Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 Ed Carey Dr., Harlingen, Texas with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time.  Burial will follow at Raymondville Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made to the Lyford United Methodist Church 13258 W. Glen Lofton Ave, Lyford, Texas 78569, the First Church of the Nazarene, 2001 N. 7th St., Harlingen, Texas 78550 or a charity of choice.
