Miguel Atkinson Jr.

SAN BENITO, TX. – Miguel Atkinson, Jr., age 81, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014 at his residence.
Mike was born on July 28, 1932 in San Benito, Texas to Miguel Atkinson, Sr. and Esther Davila Atkinson. He was a direct descendant of George Atkinson, a pioneer who came from England to Cameron County in 1836.
Preceding him in death are his loving parents and grandparents, Alberto & Amalia Atkinson and Luciano & Antonia Davila.
He is survived by his sons Mark H. (Marta) Atkinson, Miguel III (Deborah), and Timothy (Ruby); by his siblings, sister Minerva Atkinson and brothers Reuben Atkinson, Sr. and Raul D. (Ileana) Atkinson; and by his granddaughters, Chelsea Atkinson and Vivian Atkinson. He is also survived by the mother of his sons, Judy Atkinson.
Mr. Atkinson served his country as a personnel superintendent within the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1974, retiring as a master sergeant. He returned to the Valley in 1975 and started and raising cattle.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014, between the hours of 5:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, June 21, 2014 within the San Benito Funeral Home Chapel at the hour of ten o’clock in the morning. Interment will follow at La Leona (Atkinson) Cemetery.
