Michael R. Anderson

Michael Rudolph Anderson, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went home to our Lord on Friday, October 11, 2024, after a long, difficult battle with diabetes. 

Michael was born January 6, 1945, to Martha and Clarence Anderson in Austin, Texas. Proudly raised in Sebastian, Texas, he was educated in the Jesuit tradition by the Catholic Church. Michael spent his years of higher education in Washington, D.C., Ottawa, Canada, and Frankfurt, Germany. He dutifully practiced marriage and family therapy for many years, touching the lives of many.

Michael and Juanita raised their two children, Al and Araceli, in San Benito, Texas. Together they welcomed six grandchildren.

In his retirement, Michael enjoyed gardening, honoring his farmer roots with an undeniable green thumb. His love of nature and animals grew over the years as he was dedicated to feeding the menagerie of animals that flocked to his South Texas oasis. A devoted Audubon member, Michael was faithful to his dear birds, especially when indulging his coveted chachalacas, green jays, and cardinals. Michael tirelessly built a haven for all flora and fauna feeding strays and pets alike. All found shelter and love at his side. As a committed outdoorsman, Michael loved our beaches, hunting leases, and sitting for a cigar and a fireside chat.

Perhaps the role Michael cherished most was that of being Peepaw to his six grandchildren. He spent countless hours standing on sidelines and sitting in auditoriums, always cheering the loudest.

Michael and Juanita shared a lifetime of happy memories together, devoted to one another always. We trust in their eventual reunion and humbly ask for your prayers and blessings for them both. Michael joins his brother and lifelong friend, Allan R. Anderson, in perpetual rest.

 A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.
