Merrill Gene Culver, age 81, passed away on September 1, 2011 at Solara Hospital, in Harlingen, TX, with his wife of 36 years, Lynn, at his side.
Born, March 30, 1930, in Avon, Illinois, to Ralph and Nellie Culver.
Merrill graduated from Maquon High School in 1947. He attended Western Illinois College and graduated from the University of Illinois, with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1951. After graduation he was commissioned in the Coast Guard, at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, in New London, Connecticut and served for two years.
Merrill was employed with Anchor Hocking Glass Container Corporation 1953 – 1988. He retired, after 35 years, in the Sales Division of Anchor.
Merrill and his wife lived on South Padre Island, TX. He enjoyed birding, walking the beach, working master level crossword puzzles and being with his two cats, Dolly and Lady.
Merrill was preceded, in death, by his parents Ralph and Nellie Culver, brothers Gordon and Warren Culver and sister Bernalea McDonald.
Merrill is survived by his wife, Lynn, brother Giles (Linda) Culver, sister, Melba Jury, sons, Merrill, Jr, and Jeffery (Laura) Culver, daughters, Catherine and Caroline Culver, former wife and mother of his children, Barbara Swarbrick, five granddaughters, Christina and Torie Culver, Zosia, Isabel and Cleo Ulatowski and stepson, James McDonald.
Cremation will follow with his ashes to be scattered at sea, off of the coast of South Padre Island, TX at a later date.
Per Merrill’s request, no funeral will be held.
