Melvin Fletcher a beloved husband, father, and member of the community, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2024 at the age of 93, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, craftsmanship, and devotion. He was born to Herman Fletcher and Alice Tingley on July 29, 1930 in Champaign IL. In the late 1930’s his family moved to the Valley and he eventually settled in Rio Hondo where he became known for his remarkable skills as a mechanic, craftsman, and gardener.
As a mechanic, he possessed a natural talent for understanding the workings of engines and machinery.
He also enjoyed woodworking, welding and just tinkering in his workshop. Additionally he served as a volunteer fire fighter for the City of San Benito for many years.
He also found joy working in his garden and was blessed with a green thumb and a deep appreciation for nature. His vegetables thrived under his attentive care and he was eager to share his bountiful harvests.
We find comfort in knowing that he will be reunited with his childhood sweetheart and wife of over 52 years as he has missed Billie Jean these last 22 years.
Melvin is survived by his Son Bruce Fletcher, Daughter in law Cristy Buff, Grandchildren Cody Fletcher, Shelby Fletcher and Savannah Anderson and Great Grandson Glen Anderson. He was one of 11 siblings and is survived by brothers Lowell, David and Johnny and sisters Nancy, Eva and Karon.
A graveside service will be held on March 25, 2024 at 3:00pm at Mont Meta Memorial Park, where friends and family will come together to pay tribute to a remarkable man.
May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy will endure for generations to come.
