Mattie Elizabeth Moses, 98, passed away Monday, March 17, 2008 at Harlingen Medical Center.
Mattie was born on August 22, 1909 in Econtuchka, Oklahoma to John and Janie Newton.  She moved to Santa Rosa in July of 1931 to begin farming with her brother.
She was a former President of WSCS later UMW, President of Home Demonstration Club and an active member for many years.  She also was a member and Sunday School Teacher of the Santa Rosa Methodist Church in Santa Rosa, Texas.
Mattie is survived by a daughter, Merle Moses Bishop (Mert) of Pharr, Texas; grandson, Michael Earl Bishop (Vicki) of Round Rock, Texas; granddaughter, Martha Elaine Pearson (Andy) of Hobe Sound, Florida; great-grandchildren, Tiffani Bishop, Nicole Tanguma, Matthew Bishop, Patrick Pearson; great great-grandchildren; A.J. Tanguma and David Tanguma and beloved nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by infant son, Jesse Earl Moses, III, her husband, Jesse Earl Moses, one sister and one brother.
Visitation hours will be held from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Wednesday, March 19, 2008 with the family receiving friends from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at the Santa Rosa Methodist Church in Santa Rosa, 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 20, 2008 with the Rev. Jerry Parks officiating.  Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Tom Moses, Rick Moses, Glen Moses, Alex Westbrook, Samuel Sanfilippo and Eddie Ostrowski, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don Moses, Eloy Sanfilippo and Tim Brann.
The family request that those desiring to do so may make memorial donations to the Santa Rosa Methodist Church, C/O Bill Friend, P.O. Box 174, Santa Rosa, Texas 78593.
