Mary Lee McCormick passed away on Monday, March 7, 2022 at the age of 91. Mary was born to Charlie and Thelma “Jackie” Taylor in Sasakwa, Oklahoma on April 17, 1930. She was the oldest of six children.
Mary met the love of her life, William “Mac” McCormick, in 1950. Mac was in the U.S. Army and was attending a school in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. They met on a double date. They were each with someone else but knew right away that they were meant to be together. They married two months later. Together they raised six sons, much of the time she was raising them by herself because his duties took him away from the home. Her family was the most important thing in her life.
Being a military wife for 30 years, she was able to travel to places many people only dream about. They lived in France, Germany and multiple states in the United States. While stationed overseas they were able to travel to other countries, including Italy and Switzerland. They spent their 30th anniversary in Hawaii for the grand opening of the Hale Koa hotel, which was an oceanfront retreat for military members and their families. Upon retirement from the military, they settled in Belton, Texas in a home overlooking Belton Lake. However, the traveling did not stop there. They enjoyed traveling around the United States and into Canada and Mexico in their motor homes, visiting family and friends.
Mary is survived by her sister, Laurie “Sis” (Art) Hill; four sons, Shelly, Wayne (Delores), Mitch (Penni) and Steve (Sandie); 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by, William, her husband of 70 years, two sons, Bill and John, and four siblings, Charlene, Betty, Pauline and Charlie, Jr. “Buddy”, and by numerous pets that Mary loved, including her talking parrot, Trouble, who accompanied them on many of their travels in their motor home.
Mary will be laid to rest alongside her husband and son, John, on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Rio Grande Valley State Veteran’s Cemetery in Mission, Texas
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, either online at T2T.org or by mail at 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306. Mac, Mary and their children all felt strongly about this organization.
